Oracle Shopping Centre – Riverside Redevelopment

Major refurbishment and reconfiguration of the Oracle Shopping Centre’s public realm to maximise the riverside location and provide more opportunities for social activities

Phase 1 of the redevelopment has involved the construction of a new 1,500ft2 steel framed pavilion restaurant for Comptois Libanais and the reconfiguration of The Riverside’s terraced steps to create a much larger public space that now accommodates events, exhibitions, kiosks and pop‐ups

The use of complimentary materials such as granite, resin bound gravel and hardwood timber has significantly improved the Riverside’s look and feel

A new green wall and biodiverse green roof to the pavilion have helped achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating
The CFA restricted access piled foundations for the pavilion and exhibition structures were carefully threaded between the existing sheet piled river wall ground anchors and other below‐ground obstructions

Key Facts

The Oracle Riverside forms an integral part of the River Kennet flood strategy. The pavilion restaurant and exhibition structures were therefore designed to be suspended on restricted access CFA piled ‘stilts’ thereby clearing the River Kennet flood attenuation level advised by the Environment Agency.
